In the vast ocean of the Qur'an, there is one verse that stands out for its profound meaning, spiritual power, and protective qualities - Ayatul Kursi, also known as the Throne Verse. This magnificent verse, found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255), is considered the greatest verse in the Qur'an by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself. Its recitation brings immense blessings, protection, and spiritual elevation to the believer.
Ayatul Kursi encapsulates the essence of Tawhid (the Oneness of Allah) in a few powerful words, describing Allah's sovereignty, knowledge, and authority over all creation. It serves as a fortress for those who recite it with faith and understanding, protecting them from harm, evil, and the whispers of Satan.
"Allahu la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard. Man dhalladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi'idhnihi. Ya'lamu ma bayna aydihim wa ma khalfahum. Wa la yuhituna bi shay'in min 'ilmihi illa bima sha'a. Wasi'a kursiyyuhus-samawati wal-ard. Wa la ya'uduhu hifdhuhuma. Wa Huwal-'Aliyyul-'Azim."
"Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."
The Virtues of Ayatul Kursi
The virtues and benefits of Ayatul Kursi are numerous and have been emphasized in various authentic Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Let's explore some of these remarkable benefits:
1. Protection from Satan
One of the most well-known benefits of Ayatul Kursi is its power to protect from Satan and evil influences. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

— An-Nasa'i
Night Protection
Reciting Ayatul Kursi before sleeping ensures protection throughout the night from Satan and evil influences.
Additionally, Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet ﷺ appointed him to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. One night, someone came and started taking handfuls of the food. When Abu Hurairah caught him, the person said, "Let me go, for I am in need and have a family." Abu Hurairah released him. The next morning, the Prophet ﷺ asked Abu Hurairah what his captive did the previous night. When Abu Hurairah told him, the Prophet ﷺ said, "He lied to you and he will come again." This happened three times, and on the third night, the person said, "Let me teach you some words by which Allah will benefit you." He then taught Abu Hurairah to recite Ayatul Kursi before going to sleep, saying, "No devil will come near you till morning." The next morning, the Prophet ﷺ asked Abu Hurairah what his captive did, and when told, he said, "He has spoken the truth, although he is a liar. Do you know who you have been speaking to for the past three nights, O Abu Hurairah?" Abu Hurairah said no. The Prophet ﷺ said, "That was Satan (a devil)."
2. Entry into Paradise
The regular recitation of Ayatul Kursi after each obligatory prayer is a means of attaining Paradise. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated:
"Whoever recites Ayatul Kursi immediately after each prescribed prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and his entering Paradise except death."
— An-Nasa'i
3. The Greatest Verse in the Qur'an
Ayatul Kursi holds a special status as the greatest verse in the Qur'an. Ubayy bin Ka'b reported that the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Which verse in the Qur'an is the greatest?" Ubayy replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet ﷺ repeated the question, and Ubayy finally said, "Ayatul Kursi." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "May Allah bestow His mercy on you, O Abu Mundhir. By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, it has a tongue and two lips, and it glorifies the King (Allah) at the foot of the Throne."

Ayatul Kursi begins with the declaration of Allah's Oneness: "Allah! There is no deity except Him." This establishes the fundamental principle of Islam - Tawhid. It affirms that Allah alone is worthy of worship, and there is no other deity besides Him.
The Ever-Living, The Sustainer
Allah is described as "Al-Hayy" (The Ever-Living) and "Al-Qayyum" (The Sustainer of all existence). Unlike His creation, Allah does not experience drowsiness or sleep, highlighting His perfection and constant vigilance over all affairs.
Absolute Knowledge and Authority
